Cynthia

Heads up artists and designer friends of Jaaga:

Cynthia Pachikara, an installation artist, is giving a talk about her shadow work at Jaaga’s Penthouse on 24th February 2015. Cynthia Pachikara has been teaching video-based sculpture and installation art courses since 1997, she uses cinematic projections and theatre lighting techniques to fill her spectators’ shadows with moving images.  Her work visualizes the notion of body-as-screen and addresses the social contingency of gazing in a space. Pachikara has exhibited internationally in venues that include the Mackintosh Museum of Glasgow, Scotland, the Forum for Contemporary Art in St. Louis, Consolidated Works in Seattle, the Fassbender Gallery in Chicago, SPACES in Cleveland, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax, and the Ann Arbor International Film Festival. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan and also teaches at the Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan.

This evening will include an Introduction to the Stamps School by Elona Van Gent (Stamps School Associate Dean) and Sandra Wiley (International Engagement Coordinator).
